About
The Igbo Women's Association of Central California
Through partnerships with dedicated organizations, we work to support the fight for women’s and children’s rights by providing financial assistance and vital resources that improve the quality of life for women in distress. Our efforts are focused on defending their rights to health and education, while also addressing urgent issues such as child marriage. By raising awareness of its harmful impacts, we aim to foster open, inclusive, and informed discussions across community, local, national, and international levels, ensuring that women and children everywhere have the opportunity to live safe, empowered, and dignified lives.

How We Began
The Igbo Women’s Association of Central California (IWACC) was formally established in Fresno, California in October 2007, evolving from the tradition of Igbo women in Fresno who had previously convened under the General Igbo Meeting (IACC) or gathered as friends to celebrate milestones such as marriages, births, graduations, and other important occasions. From the beginning, our association’s purpose extended beyond ourselves to embrace our families, children, and future generations. Guided by our motto, Onye Aghala Nwanneya – “Do not abandon your sisters” – we have consistently embodied unity, sisterhood, and collective responsibility. Each leader has strengthened this foundation by engaging members and upholding the vision of one aim, one destiny, and one family.
Our history cannot be fully told without special recognition of our husbands, fathers, and brothers, whose support has been vital since the very beginning. Today, we continue to demonstrate this spirit of solidarity through love and support for one another, whether in celebrating life’s joyful moments – births, naming ceremonies, bridal showers, baby showers, and weddings – or in offering compassion and strength during times of grief and hardship.
